"True Blood"
Season 1:
True Blood is based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. The book series is also known as the Sookie Stackhouse novels. We follow the life of telepathic Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid living in Louisiana. Her life is changed when Bill, a vampire, movies into the house next door. At the same time a killer is killing of women who have had sex with vampires!
The acting is solid from pretty much everyone. Especially Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse and Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds do great performances. But the rest of the cast are also good.
The show has an unique style to it, something different from what I have seen before. It has a good deal of mature content, but it is always used in the right context to improve the story. Speaking of the story, it is brilliantly written, with quick dialog and editing. There is always something happening and every episode has twists and turns that changes the story. True Blood is a great example of a show that never gets predictable and keeps being entertaining episode after episode.
There isn't much negative to say, the only thing I can think of is that is doesn't follow the story of the books very accurately. Some characters from the show that have a lot of screen time are hardly in the books and visa versa. But when making a show out of a book series it is accepted to have some creative freedom and the way True Blood Season 1 turned out, is close to perfect. 9/10
