Mr. Gibb

A high school girl is kidnapped and no one has a clue who the kidnapper is.

This movie was made in 2006 under the name Mr. Gibb. However in 2008 it was released under the name "The Good Student". It's a low budget movie and although you are easily able to see that, its not all bad. The story is good and the theme is fresh, however the acting is below average except for a few people and the direction is pretty horrible. It's not a Comedy though as shown on IMDB, I would say Drama/Thriller. For the Hayden Panettiere fans out there, don't miss the "ass" scene. 5/10

The Warriors

A gang named "The Warriors" is framed for killing the leader of the largest gang in the city. They are trying to get back to their own turf while the rest of the gangs try and stop them.

This is one of those few movies that has a really high score on IMDB.com that I disagree with. It might just be that I don't get the movie or the point of it. Don't get me wrong it's not bad. I just had the feeling in the end, what exactly was the point? On the positive side, I really liked the way they skipped between scenes using cartoons, the costumes are also fantastic, especially the opening sequence is great. I think the movie is a flashback on the late seventies youth and gang culture. Overall 6/10. It's not a masterpiece, but not crap ether.

Body of Lies

We follow an undercover FBI agent in the chase for a Terrorist responsible for several attacks throughout Europe.

There has been several movies as of last dealing with the increasing problem of Terrorism, and this one is among the better ones. It has a really good story, one that is very realistic as well. The acting is top notch. The movie also has some beautiful shots of the middle east and you get too see the cultural difference between there and the west. The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the movie, it does not slow down at all. This is the second time I watch it and I give it a 9/10

Tropic Thunder

We follow the crew and actors making a war movie, except they don't realize the enemy they are facing is real.

This is one of the funniest comedies of 2008. It has a great cast, and they all play their roles perfectly. The movie also makes fun of about every war movie ever made. It's hard to put it into words, but I was laughing throughout most of the movie, especially the opening and the end are really funny. If you want a comedy with explosions, guns and great humor, watch Tropic Thunder. 8/10

Edison

A journalist uncovers a group of corrupt police which results in him and his loved ones almost being killed.

The story of this movie has been told before, a gang of corrupt police and the guy that brings them down. This time around the story is well written, the characters are interesting and the acting is good. However the movie could have been better. Some points just feel to slow, the story is also hard to follow at points and the end is a little over the top. All in all its a decent action/crime flick. 6/10

Mamma Mia!

A girl soon to be married invites 3 men, not knowing which one of them is her real father. They all spent parts of the summer with her mother 20 years earlier.

What can I say, its one of those movies everyone tells you too watch, yet you never seem to do. Well I finally did and I'm glad. My favorite movies are not musicals, but this one was a little different. I think the main reason I liked it so much is that I have heard all the music by ABBA before and really like it. So that every time they made another song fit the story I went wow, how did they pull that off. It almost seems the music was made for the movie, not the other way around. Of course the actors all do great jobs and the screenplay is very good. Greece of course is beautiful. I give the movie a 7/10. You won't be bored watching!

"Supernatural"

Season 1:

Today I finished season 1 of Supernatural. The show is about two brothers hunting ghosts, demons and anything else supernatural that they can find. They are also looking for their father and the demon that killed their mother.

The show has it's similarities too The X-files. I was a little skeptical in the beginning although I loved The X-files, but for each episode the show got better and the end was amazing. It's apparent that they got more money for special effects as the show goes, which in my eyes is a good thing. I am looking forward to watching season 2. Based on season 1 I give the show a 7/10.

Season 2:

Today I finished season 2 of Supernatural. The two Winchester boys are still hunting daemons, spirits and anything else supernatural in their way.

The second season was a lot better than the first, the humor is better, the acting is better and the stories themselves are also a lot better, the ongoing story of the show is also easier to follow from episode to episode which makes the season as a whole more fun and trilling to watch. It is clear that the budget was raised, the special effects are also better and the last few episodes are really well made. I am looking forward to watching season 3. I upgraded my vote to 8/10 based on the two first seasons.

Season 3:

The two Winchester brothers are back for another season of spirits, ghosts and demon hunting!

The quality of the episodes in the 3rd season were split. Although the show overall is still really good some of the episodes felt a little off. But then again some where really good. Especially the last few. Different from the previous seasons is the fact that there are more and more other people reappearing in the episodes. This is a good thing, it makes it easier to follow the main story and some of these new characters are very interesting. I hope they follow that path in season 4. I give this season a 7/10 and overall the show a 8/10.

Wanted

A frustrated office worker who is sick of his job, is recruited into a secret group of assassins and trained to kill the man that killed his father.

Where do I start? If you like fun, over the top and completely crazy action, this is the movie for you. It has everything you could wish for, including curving bullets, an old fraternity and car stunts you know are not possible. Still the movie is really entertaining, the acting is not bad at all and the special effects are top notch. Oh and did I mention Angelina Jolie with some really nice tattoos kicking ass. I give Wanted a 7/10, its no masterpiece, but keeps you entertained throughout.

"Wallander"

I just finished the 3 first episodes of the British Kurt Wallander remake based on the books by Henning Mankell. All 3 episodes had me glued too the TV. I really liked Kenneth Branagh as Kurt Wallander. The show has a sad feel to it, but it fits the character. The visual style is especially good and every little detail matters. It also helps you guessing who the villains are and you end up being just a little ahead of Wallander in solving the murders. Not too much though, sometimes just a few seconds before Wallander realizes.

Overall I give the first 3 episodes a 8/10 and I am looking forward too the next 3 parts being released.

Cloverfield

We follow a group of friends trough the camcorder they have, as a giant monster attacks New York City.

What makes this movie so good and unique is that everything we see is trough the eyes of a single videocamera. This makes the story oddly believable. The work to make this movie look authentic is also amazing, and the special effects are top notch. You really get the feeling that New York is under heavy attack. The only downside is the rather annoying guy that is holding the camera. I also liked the opening where we are fooled to believe that the tape was found, just like in the Blair Witch Project. I give this movie a 9/10 after the third time I watch it.

The Guru

An Indian man wants to move to America to be a famous actor, but instead becomes a sexguru.

I stumbled across this movie on the TV tonight and I was pleasantly surprised. It was funny and had some awesome stereotype spoofs, but it also had a love story and this is what gave the movie that little extra. I would also like to comment on the music. The score was great, especially the Indian songs. I give this movie a 7/10, if you want a fun feel good comedy, this is the movie for you.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

A boy is determined to take the day off from school, so he plays sick. He fools his parents and the fun begins.

This was a fun comedy, although a little dated, it still had me laughing in several scenes, it also kind of reminded me of Home Alone, except in this movie they leave the house. In the end we even get some real emotion and it spiced the movie up. All in all a fun comedy with some good laughs and a damn pretty girl. I give it a 7/10

The Beast

We follow a girl that is to be married with a man she has only written letters too. She is to be married in his and his fathers mansion, but the mansion holds secrets. Old books about beasts and humans together in ways frowned upon by most people.

I am not sure how to explain this movie. It was shocking yet somehow erotic. I was left with an uneasy feeling, maybe guilt, for liking it in a way I am not supposed to. It also made me think about the human nature, and how we are not that far from the animals as we like to believe. This goes especially for the flashback scenes while the girl is masturbating.

I rate this movie a 6/10. It is not for everyone, and the beginning is slow, but in the last 30 minutes it gets interesting in ways that are hard to describe.

Braindead

It’s been a few years since I last watched this horror/gore fest from Peter Jackson. In fact it is the movie that made me interested in gore and slasher movies in the first place. I have watched numerous gore movies since then, but Braindead still holds a place in my heart. It is funny, gory and has one of the best scenes ever captured on film, a lawnmower with blood and guts everywhere. The one-liners are also brilliant. “I kick ass in the Lords name” and “The party’s over!” is among my favorites.

I give this movie a 8/10, even if you are not a big fan of gore movies, you will find this funny and if you are a fan you will love it.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Vicky Christine Barcelona is the story of two girlfriends who go to Barcelona for the summer and their experiences during their trip. The movie is also about love and how hard it is to find the right one.

I had read a little about the movie before watching it, but it turned out to be different from what I expected. Penelope Cruz does a fantastic job and overall all the acting was great from everyone. You also get to see a lot of Barcelona and it made me interested in going there. I give this movie a 7/10, it’s not a masterpiece, but overall very enjoyable.

When Darkness Falls

It is the second time I watch this gem from Sweden. The first time I gave the movie a 8/10 but after a second viewing I upgraded it to a 9/10. The movie is split up in 3 separate stories with 3 separate themes. All 3 are set in Sweden. The first is about honor in a Muslim family and the extent the family is willing to go to protect that honor. The second is about the violence at Swedish nightclubs and restaurants and the last is about the growing problem of violence against women.

The movie is excellent made, and keeps you in the seat the whole way. There are some amazing performances from several of the actors and actresses involved.
