Push

11.07.2009
In a world where some people have special abilities, a group of young Americans in Hong Kong must find a briefcase with a drug before a government agency controlling the people with special abilities finds it.

There has been a large number of movies and TV-shows featuring people with special abilities in the last few years, some bad and some very good. The latest addition is Push. Push includes abilities like telekinesis, being able to look into the future and being able to hide things and people from others. At first glance it might look like just another movie with this well used theme, but it is one of the better ones.

Starring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning and the always beautiful Camilla Belle to mention a few, the acting is decent. Especially Dakota Fanning turned out to be a positive surprise and I am certain she will turn out to be a great actress in the future. She already has an amazing number of roles behind her.

The movie benefits a lot from the Hong Kong location. Hong Kong is a very different city from anything you will find in America and I like that they kept the story there. There are some great shots of the city that will get any traveler to want to go there.

The story is not the movies strongest aspect, but is fairly easy to follow as soon as you get used to the special abilities the characters have. I also liked that the special effects were there to improve the story and not the other way around which has become more and more normal. The special effects still look a little corny, but at least they did not over run the rest of the movie.

Push is an enjoyable sci-fi flick that will keep you entertained. It is no masterpiece, but has it's moments. Decent acting and a beautiful Hong Kong improves what could easily have become an average flick. Easily rewatchable. 7/10
