Tremors

A small town is attacked by a group of large mutated worms who seem to get smarter and smarter as the towns people try to get to safety.

I will admit my expectations where not very high before watching this movie, however I was pleasantly surprised. The story was well crafted and very funny. I was laughing to myself throughout the viewing. The acting was great, Kevin Bacon does a great job. The special effects where kind of low budget and the worm thingies looked a little weird, but it did not ruin the fun of the movie.

It will not stay in my mind very long, but if you want a comedy and sci-fi movie that does not take itself to serious, watch Tremors. 7/10

Cradle 2 the Grave

A gang of thieves steal a bag of black diamonds but the deal goes wrong and they get in the wrong hands. Together with an Asian secret service agent they have to solve the problem before the leaders daughter (who was kidnapped) is killed by the terrorists.

Jet Li and DMX are back in another kick ass movie, literally. It's filled with great action scenes and a decent potion humor. Being a Jet Li fan I had a great time although it's just another average action flick. The plot is beyond unbelievable and the acting is average. However Anthony Anderson does a great job as always. The fight scenes are also fun too watch, which is almost always the case when Jet Li is on the screen, this time he is supposed to be beyond amazing, having one hand in his pocket acting all relaxed as he is whopping ass. It works and you are left with a big grin on you're face when the movie is over. 6/10

A Tale of Two Sisters

A horrifying movie about a girls delusions and depression following a huge loss in her life.

My sister told me about this horror movie and following my curiosity I watched it. It follows the normal procedure of horror movie making in Asia, having a slow start and building up more and more as the movie progresses. This is very different from American horror movies, where it is a lot more common to have quick shocks throughout. I know some people get bored with this kind of storyline, but personally I like it. It makes the final scenes so much better and you are always on the edge of your seat waiting for something scary to happen.

The story is very good and once you understand the whole plot you are left with an uneasy feeling. However it took me 2 views to fully get it. This might be because I was not concentrated enough the first time or because I am not used to watching Asian horror movies. Whatever the reason I think it's a positive thing. It means it is a movie you can watch several times without being bored.

The acting is as usual for these kind of movies very good. Especially the stepmother character is fantastically acted. Good actors is essential in horror movies and I was happy to see this did not let down. The movie is also very artistically shot with some beautiful images and very creepy angels. The only negative thing is the clear inspiration it has from Ringu. However this is a minor detail. It's a great horror movie that is pretty scary and has a great story. 8/10

Let the Right One In

23.03.2009
A bullied boy meets a girl who moved into the apartment next to him. What he experiences and learns is both beautiful and shocking.

Yet again I stumble across a masterpiece. This time it's a Swedish movie. The movie blew me away and I strongly urge everyone to watch it. The movie combines a love story with a horrific horror story in ways I have never seen before. Throughout the movie you are always wondering and analyzing the story, trying to justify the horrible things that happen. But it also has beautiful scenes with love and friendship. Where a bullied boy finally meets someone he can connect with. It's hard to explain just how mind shattering the story is, you have to see it for yourself.

The acting is amazing, which of course is essential for a movie like this. Especially the girl playing Eli does a terrific job. Both the main characters are played by first time actors. The lightning effects sets the mood for the movie, its very dark at times. It is no children's movie. There are some very strong images with blood and body parts. The music is also great turning our emotions this way and that way as the movie progresses.

What defines a great movie is the feeling you are left with when it's over. I was left with my head full of thoughts, trying to sort them and trying to decide exactly what side I was on. After reading a few other people's thought and reflections I had even more thoughts and I realized just how deep this movie is. Now I am looking forward to read the book and telling everyone I know about this gem. 10/10

28.03.2009
Second time I watch this masterpiece and I must say it was just as good the second time. It still get's 10/10 from me.

Bolt

A dog who has been a superhero in a TV show all his life and believes it to be real, accidentally get's let out in the real world. He has to find his human while surviving without any powers.

Bolt is an amazing animated movie from Disney animation studios. The animation quality is better than anything I have seen before. The story, although being pretty predicable, is good and suits the movie well. Of course its a classic tale told many times before, but it works this time as well. We get connected to Bolt, and his brave journey across America to find his human. The dialog is very child friendly without to many grown up jokes. However the movie can be enjoyed by the whole family, both young and old. There are some great humor elements as well that had me laughing a lot of times.

The music is also superb with the right kind of music at the right moments. I had no problem with any of voices for the characters ether. Only thing preventing this from getting the top score from me is that it is nothing new. I am sure though that you're kids will be asking for a dog if you don't have one already. 9/10

"The Wire"

Season 1:
We follow the Baltimore police, working a drug case connecting murders, money and drugs to a man named Avon Barksdale.

I was told this was one of the best and most realistic cop/crime shows made, and I have to say I was left with that same impression. Everything is shown down to the last detail. No one is all good or all bad, it's just people. There are not a lot of action scenes, yet the show manages to keep you in you're seat. You get the feeling you are solving the case yourself, because everything is shown equally. Instead of it being black and white, its all gray. The acting is very natural and the plot is scary realistic. I can't wait to watch season 2 and I hope it will be just as great as season one. 9/10

Season 2:
The life in Baltimore continues. The police is put on a new case involving a dead girl found floating in the water and a container filled with dead people on the docks.

The second season of "The Wire" keeps going where season 1 left off. We follow most of the same characters from season 1 and we are also introduced to new ones. What I liked about season 2 is that it does not just drop everything from season 1 and focus on the new case. We still follow the same people, although some of them are in jail and some have new jobs. The show still feels very realistic and the attention to detail is amazing. The only real downside is that the story uses to long to catch on. Half the season has passed before you feel like the case is really established and all the characters are where they should be. Overall this is still an amazing crime/cop show and I am looking forward to season three. 9/10

Season 3:
A new case starts with Stringer Bell as the main target. At the same time 3 free zones are created where drug sale is overlooked, in an attempts to get the city's crime and murder rate down.

We keep following the familiar crew of police and drug dealers. The new case is different and puts new light on the show. The writing and dialog is still excellent and the humor is always spot on. The new sidestory is also interesting, following the political battle and the "game" that is played when several people all want to become the new Major.

The show keeps the high level of authenticity it is known for. Nothing is overdone or overlooked. The day to day life of the police and drug dealers is portrayed amazingly realistic. This is as close to a documentary you will get without watching one. The only downside is that there is a lot of information to process while watching. Every detail is important and if you do not pay attention to every episode, it is easy to get confused. This is however a minor detail. I am looking forward to the next season. 9/10 so far.

"Kyle XY"

Season 1:
9/10

Season 2:
Kyle's life continues in season 2 and a lot more of the plot is revealed. Kyle was found wandering the woods naked with no memory, and the Trager family adopts him, giving him a home to stay in and a family too call his own.

The second season keeps this amazing show going and makes it even better. They made 23 episodes in this season which is a huge increase from season 1. The show is mainly a drama with sci-fi undertones and it delivers just that. The acting is amazing from everyone, and the story develops just fast enough to keep watching, never being bored. Apart from a few episodes that where a little dull, they really did an amazing job with this season. I am looking forward to season 3 and hope it will be as good. I give this season a 9/10 and the show overall 9/10

Season 3:
Jessie movies in with the Tragers and Kyle learns more about Latnok.

The final season of Kyle XY is just as good as the previous ones. Sadly the show was canceled after only 10 episodes and all the viewers are left with a ton of questions since the last episode just cut of in the middle of the story. I am hoping they will make a TV movie to fill in the blanks and give the followers some closure.

That being said, the show keeps on track where it left of in season 2. The acting is still amazing and the Jessi/Kyle relationship is further explored. The story has always been a strong part of this series and it does not let down ether. Most of the characters remain interesting to follow as well. At points it felt as though they where rushing the story, and this pulls the overall score down a little. It's not easy to find a sci-fi show that keeps both sci-fi fans and family fans interested, this is one of the unique things about Kyle XY. It is very family oriented and focuses a lot on relationships/friendships, yet it is still just sci-fi enough to keep those fans watching as well. I give this show a 9/10 overall. It was fun, exciting, mysterious and warming. It will be missed.

Commando

A retired commando's daughter is kidnapped and he has 11 hours to find her before they kill her.

Commando is nether good or bad. The plot makes no sense, there is minimal acting and the action scenes are over the top or plain retarded. However it still has a strange charm over it. It's like the movie never tries on purpose, this making us forgive it. I think a lot of people accidentally believe it was supposed to be serious, not understanding the comedy.

Looking past the flaws, it is actually pretty fun to watch. Arnold's one liners hit the spot every time and the over the top scenes puts a grin on your face. It's not a masterpiece by any means and I doubt I'll watch it again anytime soon, but some parts really entertained me. 6/10

Kung Fu Hustle

A group of former Kung Fu champions living in a housing complex for the poor are attacked by the evil axe gang.

Kung Fu Husle is a decent comedy. What it does is spoof the whole Asian martial arts movie culture and if you like that kind of genre you will find this movie very entertaining. The jokes are for the most part funny and the whole thing being way over the top adds too the fun. The acting is decent with some good and some not so good performances. The special effects are good and used in a way that although you know its all bollocks it's cool to watch.

Sadly, if a person has no prior knowledge off Asian martial arts movies, this might get dull and uninteresting, or just seem plain stupid. Also the English dubbing is pretty bad and the subtitles even worse. This might be a problem with the DVD version though. All in all a fun over the top movie deserving a 7/10.

Yes Man

After showing up at a presentation about how to say Yes to life, a man decides to say yes to everything for a whole year.

Knowing it had Jim Carrey in the main role I was interested too see what direction this movie would take. Seeing a lot of his previous work I was surprised to find this comedy a lot different than I had expected. It's a comedy and follows the normal recipe. A buildup where everything goes good, the breakdown and then the happy ending. Where so many other movies have failed, this somehow does not. All the characters are very likable and Allison played by Zooey Deschanel is breathtaking. In the end I was really rooting for the happy ending and felt that the movie had actually thought me something useful. You have to dare to say yes to opportunities that occur in your life.

However the movie is not perfect, at times the humor can be a little silly and or hard to grasp and a few scenes could easily have been replaced with better ones. All in all though it's a great fun feelgood comedy that most people will enjoy. 7/10

A Fistful of Dollars

A wandering gun for hire walks into a town where two rivaling families live. By turning them against each other he makes his money.

I believe this is one of the first spaghetti westerns made, and that created a ton of more movies in the same genre. The plot is simple yet entertaining. It's the dialog and acting that makes this movie shine. Clint Eastwood fits the role of an unnamed gunslinger perfectly. We never quite know what he will do next, yet we trust it will be something smart.

I was surprised at how good this movie looked considering its from 1964, but the picture and quality is top notch and the use of widescreen improves on the feel of the movie. The music is also great and the theme throughout fits the movie. All in all 8/10

The Bourne Identity

A man is found in the sea and rescued by a fishing boat. When he awakens he does not remember who he is. With only a few clues he has to try and recover his identity, but what he finds is not what he expected.

The Jason Bourne movies are some of my favorite action/thriller movies. The first movie delivers everything you are craving and a little extra. The story is loosely based on the books by Robert Ludlum and although they changed it a lot it is still very good and fits as a movie. You are in the edge of you're seat the whole time. The acting is terrific all around and all the actors fit their characters. The bourne Identity is a new take on action movies. Instead of explosions and hot girls this movie has more fast passed scenes, with more realistic situations. Some may find the shaky camera a bit annoying, but I think it only adds to the experience and help you feel as you are right there with Jason Bourne, trying to find out who he is.

The music score is also wonderful and suits the movie perfect. I have watched this movie more times than I remember and every time it get's a little better. 10/10

"Journeyman"

A man travels back in time on different missions to save people. When he completes the tasks he is sent back to the present.

Yet another wonderful show canceled after its first season. The story is great and a new twist to the whole time travel thing. They could have done so much interesting in future seasons, the story was only beginning when they cut it off. Every episode has one task that our time traveling friend must complete and they are all different and unique. Combined with this we also follow his life with his wife and child, brother and friends throughout the episodes.

Acting is great across the board, with Kevin McKidd in the lead doing a awesome job. Every episode has its purpose and the show never falters. It really is a shame this show got canned. Overall great directing as well, and some nice special effects here and there. 8/10
