Robert Langdon, a professor in ancient symbols, is called to a crime scene to help the police solve a murder. However he quickly learns that he is the main suspect and together with Sophie Neveu he must uncover the truth. What they find is rooted back in history to the death of Jesus and will shake the foundations of Christianity itself if it gets out. Based on the bestseller with the same name by Dan Brown.
Never has fiction seemed so real. This phrase was the first thing that came to mind after watching "The Da Vinci Code". The story is the strongest element in this religious mystery, it is told in such a fascinating way that it is easy to start believing in it. I was sucked into the story from the first frames until almost 3 hours later when the credits appeared. Not many 3 hour movies has that ability.
People are always fascinated by the past and especially religious history. I fully understand how many people think this could be the truth and it is why the story is so good. It blends the truth with fiction in a spectacular way.
The movie has a nice flow and you will never be bored. The characters are all interesting. The directing is flawless and the movie includes a large number of historical locations. The music is also great and suits the theme of the movie perfectly. The only negative thing about the film is the acting. It feels a little stiff at times and I got the feeling it could have been even better with different people in the main roles. However Tom Hanks does a good job as Robert Langdon and it does not affect the movie much.
Overall I was very pleased with the adoption to film. Pretty much everything works and you are sucked into a fantastic story that seems very real. To everyone out there that might be in doubt, this is fiction and should be appreciated as such. 9/10
