When I first heard about this movie, step dancing was not the first thing that came to mind. And my view on step dancing changed significantly. I think the view we have on step dancing really depends on what part if the world we are from.
My first reaction to the movie was that the story has been told at least a hundred times before. I knew the ending from a mile away. This is not necessarily a bad thing if the material in between is good, in this case it was just average.
Acting was decent but not spectacular. The characters were mostly believable and with a good performance by Meagan Good playing April. It is still easy to see the different stereotypes among the cast.
Without the step dancing this would have been a dull movie. The dancing is without a doubt the best part of this flick and especially the competition in the end is really enjoyable to watch. Sadly this does not improve the movie as a whole that much. This is an average dance flick that will keep you entertained, but will be erased from you're mind soon after. 6/10
