To Love Someone

After nearly being beaten to death by her former boyfriend, Lena starts a new life with a new man. One day Lena runs into her ex by accident and old feelings ignite once again.

"To Love Someone" is a powerful movie. It deals with difficult themes like woman abuse and loving people that abuse you. It really shows how strong love can be and the things we are willing to do in the name of it.

Swedish movies have a tendency to provoke in some way or another, they like to make movies about unorthodox problems, and are experts on difficult themes and issues. This could quickly become terribly boring to watch if the rest of the elements sucked, luckily they almost never do and this is no exception.

The story itself is not that special, it serves as an easy way to bring up the themes of the movie and gives the viewer room to think for him or herself. The pace of the movie is just perfect, with enough going on that you are not bored, but also at a pace that lets you digest and think as you are watching.

The acting raises the rating significantly. Sofia Ledarp is terrific as Lena, but also the rest of the cast are amazing. Rolf Lassgård does once again a great performance as Lena's new boyfriend and Jonas Karlsson is equally good as the ex.

To Love Someone is a drama from start to finish. It deals in delicate themes that I am sure many of you will be provoked by. Let me also add that this is not a happy story with a sweet end. Be prepared and you will enjoy it immensely. 8/10
