I had not even heard about this movie before one of my friends showed it to me. It is one of the many comedies that has been released lately. The subject of this one is fanboys as the title so obviously explains. More than fanboys, our friends are Star Wars nerds. The story itself is pretty straight forward and self explained. Our friends set out on a road trip and of course various problems arise on the way. We get a seemingly endless row of jokes making fun of various movies and popular culture and if you are not up to date this will quickly become boring.
I believe that I am up to date on these subjects and that is probably why I found this movie a bit of a positive surprise. Somehow they managed to knit the jokes together into a very funny movie. Especially the fight against the Star Trek fans was hilarious. The other thing I really liked, that seems to be a new trend in today's comedies, was the surprisingly touching ending. It was actually very good.
Making a comedy into a masterpiece is one of the harder things to do. This is not a masterpiece but it is funny. It has some great scenes that will have you laughing out load and some heartwarming moments to top it of with. The jokes are above average as long as you are familiar with Star Wars, Star Trek and other pop culture references. 7/10 from me.
