"I Spit on Your Grave" or "Day of the Woman" as it originally was named is a classic revenge movie. It has over the years gained a small cult status as being provoking. Especially to women that watch it. And I can understand why, after all over half the movie features the rape of the young woman Jennifer Hills.
If you ever watched "Irréversible" you know about the famous rape scene. This movie has a rape scene 10 times worse. It looked scary realistic and Jennifer Hills' screams will stick in your brain. When it is finally over you are just hoping that the revenge will be horrifying. And it is horrifying. Especially the bathroom scene is disgusting.
The movie has a fair amount of nudity and gore and is a low budget horror/exploit flick. Most of the actors are new and sadly not very good. The camerawork is decent but the sound really fails. A lot of the dialog is so muffled or low that it is impossible to hear and the rest is hard to understand unless you crank the volume up. This was really annoying and could easily have been fixed.
The realism of the revenge is also debatable. Personally I highly doubt anyone raped as brutally as Jennifer Hills is ever capable of using sex to your advantage when taking revenge. There are so many easier and more logical ways of doing it. I must say however it was a pleasure to watch it anyways.
If you are into the more low budget/extreme/provoking movie genre this is a decent title to watch. For me the technical details ruined what could have been a great gore flick. 5/10
