Underworld

Selene, a vampire warrior in the war between the vampires and the werewolves falls in love with Michael, a human turned werewolf.

The first Underworld movie made but the second if you follow the story. The Underworld movies are great if you like vampires, werewolves and great action sequences. And if you don't this will change your mind.

The first positive thing that comes to mind is the great story. A lot of background material was made to help make a whole fantasy world. This helps a lot with the main story in the movie and give the characters purpose and meaning. I was actually positively surprised by how developed the background story was and it really helped me get into the movie.

In addition to the story the action is great! There is something mysteriously sexy with Kate Beckinsale as a vampire kicking ass in slow motion, with nothing but a latex suit on. This was initially what made me watch this. Thankfully the movie is so much more on top of that.

A few bad performances by the rest of the cast is what mainly drags this down. I especially did not like Shane Brolly playing Kraven. He just did not fit in the role at all. The dialog is also a little stiff and to many old and rare words are used to try and give the vampires class. I thought it just sounded weird and not very natural.

These are just small flaws in a overall very enjoyable movie. Never have vampires and werewolves looked better on screen. When you combine this with a interesting story, lots of action, one hot Kate Beckinsale and great special effects you get Underworld. Not to be missed. 8/10
