The Last House on the Left

On the road to a rock concert two girls try and score some marijuana, but the dealers turn out to be psycho killers on the run from the police.

The Last House on the Left is yet another over hyped, mediocre horror from the 70's. I had big hopes for this flick, but I was disappointed to say the least. The story is thin and not very believable, but since this is often the case with horrors, I let the story slide.

Based on the tagline: "To avoid fainting, keep repeating "It's only a movie...It's only a movie..." I was prepared for some really gory and scary scenes, sadly the movie had nether. The special effects were laughably bad and did not look very real at all. The chainsaw scene comes to mind as a particular good example. The film is not scary at all, in fact it's more of a comedy at times.

Luckily not everything about this movie was bad. The acting was decent. The directing was technically solid as well if you keep in mind this was a fairly low budget movie and keep the special effects out.

I can see how this was a bit harder to watch back in the 70's when the gore and extreme movie genre was still young, today however it looks mild and not very shocking. 5/10
